Cue it’s the Final Countdown of 2018

That’s right folks. We’ve finally reached the last month of the year. Can’t believe that we’re already 10 days out from Christmas.

With there being only 16 days (WOW) left in the year, this felt like a good time to discuss any goals for the end of 2018.

Like many, I am fortunate enough to have already hit my  Goodreads challenge for the year. For a while there it didn’t feel like I was going to because of the weird reading slump that wasn’t really a slump. Still can’t decide what to refer to it as.  I’m just glad to feel like I’m finally working my way out of it.

Now for my goal for the end of the year. There is really only one.

It’s to finish any books that I’ve started in the last month and not yet finished. Thankfully there is only two.

I’d like to think I’ll be able to finish more but this close to Christmas and New Year’s, with a job in retail it probably won’t happen.

So here are the two books I hope to finish before 11:59 pm on December 31st.

Invisible Library (Invisible Library #1) by Genevieve Cogman

One thing any Librarian will tell you: the truth is much stranger than fiction…

Irene is a professional spy for the mysterious Library, a shadowy organization that collects important works of fiction from all of the different realities. Most recently, she and her enigmatic assistant Kai have been sent to an alternative London. Their mission: Retrieve a particularly dangerous book. The problem: By the time they arrive, it’s already been stolen.

London’s underground factions are prepared to fight to the death to find the tome before Irene and Kai do, a problem compounded by the fact that this world is chaos–infested–the laws of nature bent to allow supernatural creatures and unpredictable magic to run rampant. To make matters worse, Kai is hiding something–secrets that could be just as volatile as the chaos–filled world itself.

Now Irene is caught in a puzzling web of deadly danger, conflicting clues, and sinister secret societies. And failure is not an option—because it isn’t just Irene’s reputation at stake, it’s the nature of reality itself.

The second book is:

Ace of Shades (The Shadow Game #1) by Amanda Foody

Welcome to the City of Sin, where casino families reign, gangs infest the streets…and secrets hide in every shadow.

Enne Salta was raised as a proper young lady, and no lady would willingly visit New Reynes, the so-called City of Sin. But when her mother goes missing, Enne must leave her finishing school–and her reputation–behind to follow her mother’s trail to the city where no one survives uncorrupted.

Frightened and alone, Enne has only one lead: the name Levi Glaisyer. Unfortunately, Levi is not the gentleman she expected–he’s a street lord and a con man. Levi is also only one payment away from cleaning up a rapidly unraveling investment scam, so he doesn’t have time to investigate a woman leading a dangerous double life. Enne’s offer of compensation, however, could be the solution to all his problems.

Their search for clues leads them through glamorous casinos, illicit cabarets and into the clutches of a ruthless Mafia donna. As Enne unearths an impossible secret about her past, Levi’s enemies catch up to them, ensnaring him in a vicious execution game where the players always lose. To save him, Enne will need to surrender herself to the city….

And she’ll need to play…

The real question now is which am I going to finish first?

They’re both intriguing in their own right. Not to forget The Invisible Library is the first in a series that has been released already. The sequel to Ace of Shades; King of Fools comes out April 30th, 2019….

37545571Don’t worry ya’ll…

You’ll be getting reviews on both once I finish them! Hopefully now that I’m working my way out of a reading slump you’ll be hearing a lot more from me!

And before you ask….

I don’t think I’ll be finishing Jonathan Strange & Mr Norrell in 2018….only 400 something pages to go!

I hope everyone has a happy and safe holiday season, regardless of what you celebrate. And remember if 2018 hasn’t been what you’ve hoped for,  just hang on for 2.5 weeks!

When the clock hits 12:01 am on January 1, the slate is clean, and a brand new year is ahead.

Happy Reading!
